Second Chance Prom

Last Friday, the women of Gilead House and Lutheran Volunteers went to a Second Chance Prom at The Village Learning Place on St. Paul Street in Charles Village. We enjoyed dancing to classic 90s music including the Spice Girls (per our request) and taking prom pictures all over again. I think the second time around was much more fun.

The Village Learning Place is a nonprofit neighborhood library, learning center, computer lab, and community garden. The serve as an anchoring institution and a partner in creating a healthy and cohesive community. When the local library was shut down due to budget cuts in 1997. The community got together and opened the Village Learning Place. This is community organizing at its best and people once again showing that community is more important than self interest.

Please check out their website and support if you can. Also, look for great community events in your area!
